Description: The Gornergrat Railway (German: Gornergrat Bahn; GGB) is a mountain rack railway, located in the Swiss canton of Valais. It links the resort village of Zermatt, situated at 1,604 m (5,262 ft) above mean sea level, to the summit of the Gornergrat.
A "mountain rack railway" is one where the train wheels will typically have "teeth" that will interface with corresponding parts of the track in a way that provides much better traction than regular metal wheels on metal rails. The railway systems a frequently used where the train has to maneuver steeper slopes.
