Description: Larus heermanni is the scientific name of the Heermann's gull, a medium-sized seabird that breeds on islands off the coast of Mexico and California. It has a distinctive gray body, white head, black tail, and red bill. It feeds mainly on fish and invertebrates, often following other predators like dolphins or pelicans to scavenge their leftovers. It is a migratory species that spends the winter in Central America and northern South America.
Richardson Bay is a shallow, ecologically rich arm of San Francisco Bay in California. It is located between the Marin County cities of Mill Valley, Sausalito, Tiburon and Belvedere.
